October 3, 1948 - July 30, 2024
Tom was an avid sailor, excellent cook and golfer, and adventurous traveler throughout his life. As a scientist, he developed the bloodlines for the artificial kidney used in dialysis for Fresenius Medical Care. Thomas Irvin Folden, 76, of Camarillo, CA died unexpectedly of injuries from a fall at home.
Tom was born in Gallipolis, OH to JoAnn Richardson Folden and Irvin Folden. He graduated from Gallia Academy High School and Ohio State University with a degree in Biochemistry. Throughout high school and college, he sang tenor in choir, plays and operas. After college, Tom married his first wife, Sue Ellen Samples. They moved to the US Virgin Islands to work for Dow Chemical. There, he enjoyed flying small planes, scuba diving, and sailing. Tom and Sue Ellen soon moved to Belgium where he began his lifelong career in the medical field at Fresenius. After Tom and Sue Ellen divorced, he moved to Walnut Creek, CA to continue his work for Fresenius USA. In 1981, Tom married his second wife, Judith (Judy) McCance, and they had one child, Alyssa Folden. Tom's work frequently took him to Europe, and he and his family enjoyed traveling, cooking and entertaining family and friends. Tom also happened to make the world's best BBQ sauce and Baklava. After retirement, Tom and Judy moved to Santa Fe, NM. Later they moved to Camarillo, CA to be close to their daughter and two granddaughters. Although divorced, Tom and Judy remained very close friends. Tom is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Folden Garcia, his
son-in-law, Joey, and his granddaughters, Blue and JoJo. A celebration of Tom's life will be scheduled at a later date. Those choosing to honor his memory may do so with a donation to the Ocean Conservatory or a charity of your choice.
