Born February 18, 1949 to Claude and Catherine Gibson, Susan was the eldest of 4 children. While growing up she learned to bake and sew, two things she continued to love to do throughout her life. After she graduated from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, California she went to cosmetology school and became a hairdresser. It was during her senior year that her cousin Jim introduced a fellow Navy buddy, Jeffrey Kuhr, to her, who then became her lifetime partner and husband of 55 years. They married February 17, 1968, the day before her 19th birthday.
Susan and Jeffrey began their family life together in Bellflower, California with their daughter Catherine Susan and later moved to Laguna Hills where their second daughter Cristy Lynn was born. Dedicated to raising her daughters, Susan passed on her cooking and sewing skills and was involved in their school and sports activities. As job opportunities came to the family so did moving to new cities. First Huntington Beach, then Thousand Oaks and eventually settling in Ventura.
A real renaissance woman, Susan worked a variety of jobs. Following her hairdressing days Susan worked for Sears both as a salesperson and in HR. After that she worked at a bank, a florist and at Joann’s fabrics. Finally, enjoying retirement with Jeffery in Ventura, California.
Anyone who met Susan knew she was a meticulous planner and especially enjoyed creating exciting family vacations. Whether it was a weekend camping trip, President’s weekend ski trips, cruises to Hawaii and the Caribbean, road trips to visit family in Oregon or trips to the East coast and England, each and every one was memorable.
Susan is survived by her loving husband Jeff, her daughter Catherine Meixner, her husband Bill and sons Beau, Blake, Brady, Brennen and Billy, as well as her daughter Cristy Westfall and her sons Quintin and Skyler. She is also survived by siblings James Gibson (Randi Gibson), Gwen Murphy (Carl Murphy), and Wayne Gibson (Dee Dee Gibson) as well as many other extended family members and life-long friends.
More than anything Susan was most proud of her role as a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother to her 7 Grandsons and will be deeply missed.
Pour a glass of wine, and cheers to Susan.
