Stephen Brian Julier died peacefully at home on January 31, 2026, surrounded by his family. He had kept an invincible spirit, persisted through three years of surgeries, and never flagged in his optimism in fighting multiple types of particularly difficult and aggressive cancer. He is now pain-free and having a big reunion with his folks and other loved ones up there, eating all the lobster and New York pizza, drinking all the beer, catching all the fish, cheering on his New York teams, tossing the football around, admiring the hummingbirds. He’s living on through the love he gave and the Julier family he built.
Stephen was born February 4, 1954, in New York City, son of the late Arthur and Helen (Kozlowski) Julier. He grew up in New Hyde Park on the north shore of Long Island, where he was active in wrestling and football, and spent hours fishing in the oceans and bays with his father and grandfather. He had a football scholarship to attend college, but the call of the ocean and beaches of the west coast was stronger. He moved to LA in the early 1970s, and never looked back.
It was there he met the love of his life, Holliday M Purpura, whom he married in 1993 in Santa Rosa, CA, their favorite area to go wine tasting. Nothing was more important to Stephen than his family. He was deeply involved in the care and raising of their two sons, Kyle and Nick, and unflaggingly proud of everything they did.
Stephen had an extraordinary appreciation for nature and the great outdoors, and an unwavering love for his family, laughter, sports and for simply being alive. His energy was irrepressible. He could not sit still. If he wasn’t biking, kayaking with Holly, or playing weekly pickleball, he was planting more geraniums on their hillside, designing wood projects, or figuring out how to do some home maintenance project himself. Anyone who met him or spent time with him delighted in his endless stories of past experiences or the crazy sales deals he succeeded in making. He was a true salesman! If you met him, you couldn’t forget him. And he was taken way too soon.
Stephen was welcomed into the arms of God by his parents, who predeceased him. Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his beloved wife, Holly Julier, and his loving sons Kyle and Nick. He is also survived by his sisters, Laura (Kate), Vivian, and Alice (Zachary), along with so many friends. The family is deeply grateful for the love and support given by the people who knew and cared for him.
