It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shelly Christine Burke, who departed this world on December 14, 2024, in Ojai, California, at the age of 61. Shelly was born on July 24, 1963, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Elba Garcia Burke and Samuel Eugene Burke.
Shelly's love for life was evident in everything she did. Whether it was live entertainment, the arts, cuisine, travel, entertaining, or simply walking in nature, she embraced every moment with passion. Known as the center of a vast network of friends, Shelly carried her strength and warmth throughout her life, inspiring those around her. She influenced and impacted everyone who came into her life, leaving them better for having known her. Her courage, resilience, and generosity touched countless lives, creating ripples of positivity and kindness that will continue to spread.
Shelly was deeply devoted to the environment, her culture, neighbors and her beloved pets. Her love expanded far beyond her immediate circle, reaching her extended family, friends, and community. She valued loyalty, kindness, and humor above all else. Shelly was smart, well-versed, and always ready for a good laugh. Her taste for both savory and sweet was legendary, and she brought joy to many with her love of great food and good company. As a professional chef, she was untouchable, blending artistry and flavor with unparalleled skill.
She is preceded in death by her beloved Mother, Elba Garcia Burke, and Father, Samuel Eugene Burke. Shelly’s memory will be cherished by her brothers, Rocky Burke and Louie Burke; her niece, Samantha Noel Burke; grand-niece, Harper Burke; and her nephew, Vicente Burke; as well as extended family members and friends who were fortunate to share in her life.
Details of a memorial service to celebrate Shelly’s extraordinary life are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a local animal shelter or community arts program in her honor.
