Former Moorpark College Associated Students Advisor and ASUCLA Student Activities Director. Mentor. Colleague. Loyal friend. Sharon Miller had the maternal gift of nurturing, loving and empowering everyone in her presence with grace, humor, and charm.
Sharon modeled integrity, collegiality and was always present with a big hug, a huge heart and even bigger smile. Sharon brought joy to everyone sharing her space.
She transcended every role in life and became a vibrant, omnipresent figure for every community she embraced.
Sharon had a lasting impact on the college campuses she served, and more importantly, on the students whose lives she shaped through her mentorship and care.
Sharon was dedicated to being the best friend to so many of us. Tried and true- with a twinkle in her eye and a hearty laugh, she would light up any room and every heart with her never-ending effervescence.
Born in Illinois and transplanted to California in the early 1980s, Sharon met and married Jay Hutchins. He was the man of her dreams. They met while both working at UCLA - so it would make sense to get married there! Jay was the apple of her eye, and she his. They had many adventures together until his passing in 2012. Those who know and love Sharon believe that she is reunited now with the love of her life.
She is survived by her sister, Janet; stepson, Josh; three Goddaughters, and a multitude of friends and colleagues.
Sharon taught us that transitions are a part of life, allowing for perpetual renewal. We were all witness to Sharon Miller’s ever-present spirit. Her love and her light forever live on in us.
