Sarah was born on October 6th, 1953 to Norman and Azizeh Abdullah in Lebanon . She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1967 settling in Los Angeles, California.
While helping out in her father's business, she attended Thomas Starr King Junior High and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1972. She then went on to train as a medical and x-ray technician.
In 1973, Sarah had her first child, Wendy. After moving to Glendale, California, Sarah met Charles Smith, her next-door neighbor. They fell in love and married in 1978. Their son, David was born in 1980. Sarah was a devoted mother and was always committed to her children’s wellbeing and happiness.
Sarah loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. Her best times were when the whole family was together. Sarah was truly the guiding light of the family and had a special way of making each person feel valued and loved.
Sarah dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked as a cardio vascular nurse and x-ray technician for over four decades, touching the lives of countless patients every day in ways far beyond the boundaries of her job. Every person who got to know Sarah, both professionally and socially, was graced by her undying generosity and warm light.
Sarah was also a gifted craftsperson. She did everything from designing and sewing Halloween costumes to reupholstering furniture. She did it all. Sarah used this gift as an act of love, taking on as many projects for others that she could, and never asking for anything in return.
Sarah’s life was forever changed the day she became a grandmother to Summer and Emma. Summer and Emma were the true light of her life. Together, they loved crafting, baking, swimming, and spending time at the beach house. Each year, the girls had beautiful Halloween costumes that were custom made by grandma, and they always adored grandma’s different fireplace mantle décor that changed with every new holiday season. Sarah had a special connection with her granddaughters and was a great source of love, patience, and wisdom to Summer and Emma. The girls knew that their grandma fought hard with her cancer to be present for them as long as she could. They will honor their grandmother’s legacy by living their lives to the fullest, just as grandma had wished. Grandma is forever in their hearts.
Sarah is survived by her husband Charles, her two children, Wendy and David, her granddaughters, Summer and Emma, and her brothers, Sam, Jessie and Solomon.
