OBITUARY

Roger Brent Sill

June 6, 1960 – August 11, 2025
Obituary of Roger Brent Sill

Roger B. Sill, 65, of Thousand Oaks, California, passed away on August 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma. Born on June 6, 1960, in Rochester, Indiana, Roger lived a life full of purpose, adventure, and love.

Roger is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa Vermette, and his cherished children: Nevaeh Vermette (California, 12), Noah Southall (California, 11), Alexis Sill (Wisconsin), Austin Sill (North Carolina), Adam Sill (North Carolina), and Ashley Southall (Indiana). He also leaves behind beloved grandchildren: Mabry Sill (1), Silvia Sill (1), and Gabe Southall (3).

He earned his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Vincennes University, and his Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Indiana Purdue University. A high school basketball standout, Roger loved the camaraderie and discipline of the game.

Roger began his career as a Park Ranger, dedicating himself to building and managing a park. He then joined Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, where for 22 years he served as an Insurance Agent and Agency Manager, raising his family while helping clients. During this time, Roger earned numerous achievement

recognitions, including Top 10 Agency Manager, Premier Agent, Achievement Clubs, and the Sportsman Award. He also earned the LUTCF and FSCP designations, demonstrating his commitment to professional excellence.

Later, Roger purchased an insurance agency in Southern California. After successful years, he sold it to pursue a new opportunity. In 2016, he and Lisa settled in Thousand Oaks, where he became a Sales Coach with Farmers Insurance, helping Agency Owners grow stronger and larger businesses. As a Financial Services Advisor, Roger continued ensuring agency clients were financially protected—both personally and professionally.

Diagnosed with melanoma in August 2022, he was cancer-free for a year following surgery. The disease returned in 2023 as metastatic, spreading to his lungs, liver, and lymph nodes. Despite the hardships of metastatic cancer, Roger fought valiantly—always with courage, dignity, and love for his family at the center of his strength.

Outside his career, Roger embraced adventure—cage-diving with great white sharks, climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, zip-lining through Costa Rican rainforests, shooting archery in an Irish castle, and swimming with stingrays. He also loved watching basketball and football, and playing golf. Beyond sports and adventure, Roger found joy in the outdoors, traveling, reading, laughing, and—most of all—spending time with his family.

Roger will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a gift for helping others, for bringing strength and light into every room he entered, and for living life fully. To his family, he was the best father and husband anyone could ask for, and to his friends and colleagues, a source of wisdom, encouragement, and loyalty.

Roger was cremated, and his ashes will be privately spread in the mountains where his family shared many special times.

A celebration of life gathering will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF), dedicated to advancing research, supporting patients, and finding a cure for melanoma. Donations may be made at www.melanoma.org.

Roger’s legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the countless people he helped along the way.
