Michael Faulconer was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother and is survived and missed by his children and their spouses Christie Faulconer, Jennifer (and husband Ryan) O'Sullivan, Michael (and wife Tayler) Faulconer, Kayte Faulconer, Camille (and husband Brian) Borchard, and Chemayne (and husband Brian) Simas; his seven grandchildren, Kay, Ashton, Finn, Luna, Merrick, Seraphina, and Evanthia; his sister Susan Faulconer and his brothers Matt Faulconer and Steve Faulconer; and his loyal and cherished dog, Luna. He was predeceased by his daughter Marissa Faulconer, his father, Hal Faulconer, and his mother, Joanne Faulconer.
Michael was born on November 29, 1954, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents Hal and Joanne Faulconer. He had a passion for architecture from a very young age and pursued this passion throughout the course of his life. He graduated from Agoura High School in 1973 and then received his Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1977. He also married his first wife and started his family at this time.
After completing college, he moved to Ventura, CA, and eventually started his own architectural practice. He met his second wife in Ventura and continued to grow his family. When not designing his own buildings, he could sometimes be found with a pen or hot glue gun, helping one of his kids with a project or last-minute school assignment, or coaching his youngest two on their basketball teams.
For over 40 years, he pursued excellence in the design of the built environment. He created a diverse architectural practice that contributed to the community through sustainable and environmentally friendly designs that continue to be enjoyed throughout Ventura County. He specialized in hillside and beachfront custom homes, downtown revitalization projects, and mixed-use developments. Over the course of his career, he received many awards for his innovative and beautiful work. He lived by the wise advice he gave to his children and grandchildren: Choose a career that you love, and you will never get tired of doing it. He was still actively designing and working on new projects at the time of his death.
Michael had many passions and interests in addition to architecture. He believed strongly in civil rights, social action, and animal welfare. He was an avid music lover and spent a lot of his free time listening to his favorite albums, playing the piano, writing lyrics for songs, or quizzing his kids on music trivia. He also enjoyed gardening, photography, and watching the Dodgers and Sunday night NFL football. He made sure he was never too far from the beach where he enjoyed playing volleyball, boogie boarding, body surfing, and just strolling along the sand. He shared and passed on these passions to his children and grandchildren, who carry forward many fond memories.
His ashes will be scattered at sea since the ocean has always been home to him. A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place in the first week of August in Ventura, CA. Details will be posted on his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/michael.faulconer.9) and will also be available upon request by emailing [email protected] . Condolences may be posted on his Facebook page or sent to the family at [email protected].
