Manuel Ortiz, lovingly known as “Dad” and “Bossman,” passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in Oxnard, California, at the age of 73. He was born on June 29, 1952, in Hanford, California, to Amador and Lenore Ortiz. The youngest of four brothers, Lupe, Bonifacio, and John, Manuel lived a full and vibrant life defined by hard work, laughter, music, and a deep love for both family and community.
For more than 25 years, Manuel worked as a heavy machine operator with the Operating Engineers, a career he was deeply proud of and one that reflected his strong work ethic and steady hands. He was truly a man of the people—someone who could walk down any street and be greeted like an old friend. Whether it was the neighbor on the corner, the clerk behind the counter, or a business owner he had known for decades, Manuel had a remarkable way of making others feel seen and valued.
In his later years, Manuel dedicated himself to caring for his older brother and his elderly mother, offering them unwavering support during their final chapters. This season of his life became a profound expression of the love, loyalty, and responsibility that defined his character.
Manuel is survived by his son, Richard Ortiz; his daughters, Andrea Caudle (James Caudle) and Jennifer Ortiz; and his five beloved grandchildren: Ariana Ortiz, Alyssa Ortiz, Aiden Ortiz, Gabriella Caudle, and Gianna Caudle.
He spent his life bringing people together with laughter, warmth, and kindness. We hope to honor that same spirit as we gather to remember him on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1501 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena, CA 91030.
If you feel called to join us, please know you are warmly welcome. Our dad touched countless lives in ways both big and small, and it would mean the world to have you with us as we say goodbye and celebrate the joy, light, and laughter he leaves behind.
