Lucy Margaret Cox

Lucy (Ruger) Cox born in St. Paul, Minnesota to German immigrants Max and Gertrude (Krenzlin) Ruger. Lucy was raised by Charles and Sue Buckbee of White Bear Lake, MN.

In 1951, Lucy graduated from Macalester College with a BA in Music, and married Francis Joseph Cox, whom she met at Macalester.

Lucy taught piano and swimming, Later earning her Nursing Degree from Cal State LA, she became one of the first Nurse Practitioners in L.A. County.

Lucy and Frank lived in Idaho, Arizona, and Washington before settling in Granada Hills with their children, Barbara and David. Lucy and Frank had many adventures traveling the world.

For many years Lucy was active in the Sepulveda Unitarian Universalist Society (the Onion), where she especially loved singing in the Onionaires Choir.

Lucy was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Ruger; her husband, Frank Cox; her sisters-in-law Mary (Cox) Thacker and Dottie (Cox) Ramos and their husbands, Eugene Thacker and Ed Ramos; and her foster sister, Barbara (Buckbee) Johnston. Lucy is survived by her daughter Barbara (Cox) Block and husband David; her son Dave Cox and wife Annie Revillion Cox; her grandchildren, Orion S A Block, Benjamin and Clarissa (Jayroe) Block, Julia Revillion Cox and Joseph Cox, and Laura Revillion Cox; her great grandchildren Josiah and Hannah Block; and her nephew, Ed Thacker.

Lucy was beloved by her family and friends for her generosity and sweet spirit and will be greatly missed.

She was the last of her generation in her family.

Our family extends a heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers from First-Light Homecare, Aegis Living, and Hospice Care of the Valley for the kindness, friendship, and attentive care given to Lucy.

In lieu of flowers donations in Lucy’s name may be made to American Foundation for the blind, or your favorite animal charity.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday April 26, 2025 2:00 PM at Aegis Living Granada Hills, 10801 Lindley Ave.
