John was born in Torrance, CA on August 31, 1939 to Everett and Esther Adams. He grew up in Beaumont, CA and graduated from Beaumont High School in 1957. John was accepted to UCLA and graduated with a Bachelors in Science in Engineering. Out of college, he accepted a position with Hughes Aircraft, where he dedicated over 30 years to his career. Work took him all over the United States—visiting all 50 in his lifetime—and to Thailand, where he spent 2 years working with the Thai Air-force.
John met Arlene in Marina Del Ray, CA in 1969. He actively pursued her, and she eventually accepted a date—which quickly led to their marriage in April 1970. John and Arlene had 2 children together, whom they raised in Newbury Park, CA. John never remarried after the passing of his wife in 1994.
John was a devoted UCLA Bruins football and LA Dodgers fan. He loved a good craft beer, a good book, and a good day off. John was an inquisitive man who loved to keep busy with researching family genealogy, keeping up-to-date on current events, bird watching, and playing various games with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his wife, and his son, Michael. He is survived by his daughter, Allison, his son-in-law, Randall, and his 2 grandsons, Julian and Drake, all of San Francisco, CA; his brother, Dale, and sister-in-law, Charleen, of Manhattan Beach, CA; and his sister-in-law, Thelma, of Lemont, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
John's daughter will remember him as a loving, kind father and a gentle, devoted “Papa.” His grandchildren will remember him as an extremely generous Papa, who also introduced them to sports and participated in many challenging games of chess.
He will be missed...but he will live on in those who love him.
