Jan Olson, 73, passed away on October 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of energy, generosity, and wholehearted enthusiasm for every chapter of her life.
Jan began her professional career as a loan officer before moving into the field of escrow. She ultimately found her calling as an escrow officer specializing in bulk transfer escrows, guiding the sales of businesses with her steady expertise and professionalism.
After quitting smoking in May 1984, Jan discovered a deep passion for running. What began as a healthy new habit blossomed into a lifelong love. Over the years she completed 13 marathons and countless 5Ks, 10Ks, and half-marathons. Among them all, her favorite was the breathtaking Big Sur Marathon along Highway 1.
The 1980s also brought adventure of another kind. Jan and her husband, Glenn Marckwardt, purchased a three-quarter midget dirt track race car. Together, with the help of their young drivers, they enjoyed many exciting victories on the track.
In the 1990s, Jan dedicated herself to a cause close to her heart: the California AIDS Ride. She participated in seven of the 545-mile rides from San Francisco to Los Angeles and served as a volunteer training ride leader, helping others prepare for the challenging but life-changing event.
Beginning in 2002, Jan and Glenn continued exploring the world on two wheels, taking part in week-long organized bike rides through Tuscany (four times), Corsica, and Santa Rosa, California. These trips blended her love of travel, fitness, and shared adventure. On these rides, Jan met many fellow cyclists from around the globe several of which are still fast friends.
In the 2000s, Jan embraced yet another passion: dog agility. Working with her Border Collies, she trained diligently and participated in many events, earning success and joy alongside her beloved dogs Franny, Twist, and most of all, Velo.
At home, Jan found peace and creativity in her hobbies. She was an avid gardener and a talented artist, crafting beautiful stained glass windows that brightened the spaces and lives around her.
Jan will be remembered for her determination, generosity, and her remarkable zest for living—qualities that inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Jan is survived by her husband of nearly 44 years and best friend for 47 years.
