Inajane Nicklas was born on April 14, 1954 in Oregon and passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, surrounded by those that loved and cared for her in Ventura California. Inajane was a Dean of Student Learning for 15 years at Moorpark College. She also served her community as a spiritual leader and a therapist specializing in working with at risk youth. She was a part of the Christian Science church and had a passion for study in mindfulness practices. She was a kind, strong empath who always put others first. In her last year, she fought ALS valiantly while charming her team of caregivers, ALS network/UCSF doctors and nurses, Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses and the caring staff at the Cottage Inn. She was also cared for by her amazing assistant, Ariana Ware. She will be greatly missed but we all suspect she will be close by now and again.
Here are some remembrance words from various colleagues and friends:
“A force to be reckoned with - a cosmic consciousness aligned with heart, spirituality, mindfulness and laughter. Many have acknowledged Inajane Nicklas as highly intelligent, witty and compassionate. She
touched many lives both on campus and off - long after her retirement. She continued to serve her community with a commitment to the underserved and a dedication to those in need. She was beloved as a Dean, as a leader, as a mentor and as a friend. She has a permanent place carved into my heart as a sister, as a part of my family. She fought her ALS like a warrior and went out like an angel. May her
journey be magnificent!

“I will miss her infectious laughter and high-pitched voice. I was blessed to have been her co-Dean on Basic Skills Committee. She led the English, World Languages and the Library Division with integrity,
passion, and an inclusive energy. I continue to appreciate her feisty personality and deep loyalty. She put students first and supported faculty in having high expectations coupled with high support.”
Julius Sokenu, President, Moorpark College

She listened with an open heart and never hesitated to take bold risks on behalf of others. She had boundless energy – she never gave up and always had the next project in mind, ready to make a difference. Her courage, loyalty, and determination left a lasting mark on at Moorpark College. I already miss her – and will continue to miss her.”

“Inajane was Dean of English/ESL/Languages/Humanities at Moorpark College for many years. She held a deep care for everyone she worked with: students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Her motto was “high standards with support,” encouraging us to make explicit to students our academic assumptions and show how to integrate them for academic success. She cared for the whole person, not just intellectually but emotionally, socially, and spiritually as well. She laughed easily. She cared deeply. She led the whole college in the direction of integrity, excellence, compassion, and wisdom. For all of us who know Inajane- she will be dearly missed. But rest assured she is already aligning her tasks in her new journey!”
Sydney Sims, Colleague and friend
Inajane’s ashes are scheduled to be released at sea on July 23, 2025, followed by a celebration of life at the Greek at the Harbor Restaurant.
