Hermie Salvador Olegario Magat

Hermilio Magat of Los Angeles, California, passed away on August 9th, 2026 at the age of 96. He was born on January 13th, 1930 in Manila, Philippines where he grew up until he began his career and later emigrated to the United States of America.

He worked as an avionics technician for over 30 years with notable companies like Air America, Flying Tigers, and FedEx.

He loved classic jazz and swing, traditional pop, and big band music with such acts like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie just to name a few.

He was also a big lifelong fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, especially during the famous “Showtime” era, and he always enjoyed watching their games, cheering them on, and sporting the team’s logos.

He is survived by his sons Michael and Daniel who also live in the Los Angeles area.

His sons would like to thank those that were able to visit him, and for the care and compassion they showed their father in his final days.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Catholic mass at Incarnation Catholic Church in Glendale, CA on Saturday, September 5th, 2026 at 12pm with a “Celebration of Life” reception to follow on Saturday, September 5th, 2026 from 2PM-5PM at L.A. Rose Cafe 4749 Fountain Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029.
