Evelyne’s life was defined by a deep commitment and unwavering love for family and friends, steadfast devotion to her faith, and a passion for guiding and encouraging others through teaching.
Above all else, Evelyne placed the highest priority on family. Time spent together around the dinner table, celebrating milestones, or simply playing games and sharing laughter was cherished deeply. Friends were welcomed like family, as Evelyne had a remarkable gift for making others feel at home. She cherished Thanksgiving and Christmas for the quality time they offered with family and friends. A highlight of her holiday season was the annual Christmas afternoon champagne party, a long-standing tradition where loved ones gathered to celebrate.
Faith was the foundation of Evelyne’s life. It strengthened her in difficult times, and inspired her generosity and compassion toward others. Through quiet acts of service, encouragement, and prayer, Evelyne lived her faith daily and left a lasting example for those around her.
Throughout her 36-year career in elementary education, Evelyne taught in New York City and Long Island, eventually finding a long-term home at Simsbury’s Tootin’ Hills School, where she served for 29 years. During her many years as a teacher, she inspired countless students in the classroom. Beyond lessons from books, even on the Iditarod, Evelyne taught kindness, integrity, patience, and the value of high standards. Former students often remembered not only what they learned, but also how Mrs. T. made them feel valued, confident, and capable. Evelyne also volunteered her time as the Academic Coordinator at the ABC House in Simsbury.
Evelyne had a lifelong love of flowers, especially the purple iris. Each spring while living in Connecticut, she eagerly planted flowers throughout the beds surrounding her yard, finding great joy in their beauty. She volunteered for many years at the Drake Hill Flower Bridge, tending the gardens and helping with their fundraising barbecue. Evelyne also loved attending the symphony in Hartford and later in California whenever possible. Each summer in Simsbury, she rarely missed a week of the Talcott Mountain Music Festival.
Nothing brought Evelyne more joy than time spent with her grandchildren. A devoted and proud grandparent, she made it a priority to attend Caitlin and Jack’s games, performances, and school events, always cheering from the sidelines. Evelyne loved teaching them family traditions, taking them on memorable trips and adventures, and spending time together playing games. These moments created cherished memories that will remain for a lifetime.
Evelyne is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years Albert Tosini; children Christopher (Anna) Tosini of Waldwick, NJ and Kimberly (John) Villalpando of Thousand Oaks, CA; grandchildren Caitlin and Jack; and her brother Heinz Gassner. She was preceded in death by her mother Hermy O’Sullivan and her step-father Teddy O’Sullivan.
A mass and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 10:00 at Padre Serra in Camarillo, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to City of Hope www.cityofhope.org or the ABC House in Simsbury, CT. https://www.simsburyabetterchance.org/
Though deeply missed, Evelyne’s life reminds us that the greatest measure of a person is love shared and lives touched.
