Ed was born “Ed Carney” in Corning, NY, in 1940, and grew up there along with his sisters, Kay and Corky. His father died while Ed as young, and when his mother remarried, he was adopted and became Ed Miller. After graduating high school from Corning Free Academy, he went to Syracuse University, graduating with a BA in Finance. From there he went on to work in finance, moving around a bit till he was sent to Kentucky, where he had 2 daughters by a previous marriage. Eventually, he moved to St. Louis, MO, where he met Nancy in 1976. They were married the flowing year and built a happy life together during the next 49 years. Over the years, they moved together from St. Louis to Cleveland to Southern California and eventually to Camarillo; their home for the last 42 years (in the same house!).
A couple years after moving to Camarillo, Ed left the corporate world and ran his own business, Just Azaleas, providing flowering plants to florists throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. He retired some time ago but remained a devout and active member of St Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo. In addition to being a Scout Leader while his son was in elementary school, he served in many ministries at St. Mary’s but was especially devoted to the Knights of Columbus.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Kathryn, and his sisters, Kay and Corky. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Curt; his daughters, Laura and Jennifer (both of Lexington, KY); and his grandchildren: Laura’s Wyatt, Austin, Cassidy, and Lilly and Jennifer’s Avery and Isabelle, and many more extended family members and friends, all of whom will miss Ed greatly.
On Thursday, October 15, all are invited to join a memorial service to be held at Conejo Mountain, Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, CA 93012, with interment of Ed’s remains and a reception to follow.
