Daniel Vicente Gomez

Daniel Vicente Gómez passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, surrounded by family at his home in Ventura California. Daniel is survived by his wife Christine of 30 years, his five younger siblings, Ricardo, Maureen, Suzanne Alon (Dovi), Madeleine, and Moira, as well as his niece Tamar. He is preceded in death by his parents Mary Frances and Benney Gómez, and his nephews Jonathan and James.

Daniel, “Dan” as family most often referred to him, was born March 26, 1954 in Los Angeles, California. He attended local schools from elementary through John Marshall High School. Daniel was a talented person whose interests spanned from mathematics and architectural drafting to playing guitar.

Daniel was a dedicated City of Los Angeles employee whose 36-year career excelled. He began as an entry level construction worker, whose projects included the installation of the Olympics display in City Hall after Los Angeles hosted the 1984 Olympics, still visible today. Through hard work and dedication, Daniel moved on to become a senior building inspector and garnered the position of President of the Municipal Construction Inspectors Association. He retired as Director of the Code Enforcement Division, Housing+Community Investment Department. Daniel integrated health and wellness issues into the Code Enforcement Division’s inspection and enforcement programs to improve housing conditions for all residing in Los Angeles. His tireless work for building safety, health and labor issues at the local, state, and national level effectively paved the way for changes that continue to support Angelenos beyond his tenure.

Daniel was also an outdoorsman. He loved taking his nephews to Chinquapin in Lake Tahoe where he would ski while the boys snowboarded. Daniel enjoyed hanging out playing guitar and listening to music, from the classics of Neil Young to Colbie Caillat. More often than not, there was a dog in his life. The latest pride and joy was BeeZee, a dachshund-loved and enjoyed by him and to whom he fondly referred to as Stinkerbelle. After moving to Ventura, Daniel became a cooking enthusiast. He would bake both savory and sweet. As he plated his creative dishes he would say, “This will be featured at Dan’s Diner!” Together with Christine, he enjoyed camping, traveling, exploring Europe and Kenya, wailing on his electric guitar, and playing with BeeZee. Kind, compassionate, calm and always ready for fun is how friends and family will remember Daniel. He was always ready to give sage advice. He leaves a wealth of memories with all of us. We will miss him dearly.
