

Arlene Ann Fate, a lifelong resident of Los Angeles and devoted educator, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 21, 2026, in Granada Hills, California, with her beloved cat by her side. She was 97 years old.
Arlene was born on August 13, 1928, at Queen of the Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, California, to William Arden Fate and Margaret Wilson Fate. She grew up in Los Angeles alongside her brother, William Arden Fate II, and remained deeply connected to the city she called home throughout her life.
A passionate advocate for education, Arlene dedicated more than five decades to serving students and families across Southern California. She taught in the Los Angeles Public Schools for over 30 years, inspiring generations of young learners with her patience, kindness, and commitment to helping others succeed. Following her retirement from teaching, she continued her service as a teacher's assistant with the Culver City Unified School District for more than 20 years, demonstrating her enduring love for education and the children she served.
Though she never married, Arlene led a rich and fulfilling life filled with adventure, curiosity, and meaningful experiences. She was an avid traveler who explored the world and embraced diverse cultures. Her journeys took her to remarkable destinations including India, China, Tokyo, Machu Picchu, and the Panama Canal, among many others. These travels broadened her perspective and provided her with cherished memories that she enjoyed sharing with friends and family.
Arlene was known for her independent spirit, intellectual curiosity, and quiet generosity. She found joy in learning, exploring new places, and caring for the animals she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Arden Fate and Margaret Wilson Fate, and her brother, William Arden Fate II.
Arlene's long life was marked by service, adventure, and a deep appreciation for the world around her. She leaves behind a legacy of dedication to education and countless lives enriched by her kindness and guidance.
She will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
