She grew up in Long Island and met her husband, Charles Dorthalina, the brother of her best friend, Vilma Dorthalina. They married on April 9, 1950, in Jamaica, Queens, NY, at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church. The couple welcomed four children into the family before moving to California.
In 1962, Charles and Alice moved their family to Los Angeles, CA. They lived in Inglewood and eventually moved to Thousand Oaks. Two more children were added to the family in California. Alice received her GED and a nurse's aide certification, then worked various jobs as associate realtor, nurse’s aide, retail sales associate and others. Fluent in Spanish, she worked as a teacher's aid and interpreter.
As empty nesters, Charles and Alice moved to the high desert, Lancaster, CA. There they were very involved in prison ministry, and Alice worked as a teacher’s aide. Finally in 2005, they moved to Leisure Village in Camarillo.
Alice spent her life dedicated to her children, her Catholic faith, and her painting. Her passion was her art. She pursued sketching and painting, entering local competitions and winning recognition with her accomplishments.
She is survived by her husband, Charles, and her children- Carlos, Michael, Daniel, Alida, David, and Paul. She was predeceased by several siblings, with five remaining: Irma McDarby, Estella Murphy, Nilda Feser, Rita Lozada-Perry, and Gizela Gomez.
She passed away on February 5, 2025, at the age of ninety-three.
