William Walter Abernathy

William (Bill) Walter Abernathy of Mesa, AZ passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer at the age of 63. William was born on December 2, 1959 in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City, IL. He attended elementary schools in Granite City and graduated from Granite City High School.

At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army and served for over 8 years. During his service he was stationed in Alaska, New Mexico and overseas in Germany for over 5 years. After his time in the military, he worked at various jobs in Illinois, Alaska and Arizona.

William attended Grace Revolution Church in Mesa, loved Joseph Prince Ministries and was a 700 Club Partner.

William always enjoyed celebrating holidays with family and friends, especially Christmas. He enjoyed making his mom’s recipe for cornbread dressing every year.

William is survived by his brothers Jerry (Linda) Abernathy of Somerdale, NJ; Richard (Lin) Waggener of Waukegan, IL; Neil (Lee Perkins) (Marie) Abernathy of Apache Junction, AZ; his sister Connie (David) Rosenblatt of Auburn, AL; and his loving partner Tamara Whitaker of Mesa, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lois (Northcutt) Abernathy, his father Weldon Abernathy, his infant sister Jean Marie Abernathy, and brother Dale Waggener.

A military burial of his cremated remains will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Neptune Society of Tempe, AZ.
