Vera Martin Veronica Margaret Taylor Predmore Martin, 92, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 16th, 2017, at Cottonwood Village, Arizona, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 7th, 1925, in Cumberland, Wisconsin, to Henrietta and Philp Taylor and was the 5th of 9 children. She moved to Iowa when her father passed at age 15 and was always fond of music, playing the french horn, and singing and was homecoming queen of her high school. She moved to California at age twenty with her sister Margie and married her first love Elmer Predmore and raised 4 sons in Burbank and Tujunga. She was actively involved in St. James Catholic Church in La Crescenta, California, and continued to have many active friends in her Rosary Group. She was an active supporter of St. Francis High School in La Canada, with all of her four sons attending and then going on to college. After Elmer’s passing in 1970, she married her second great love, Dean Martin, in 1972 and helped raise Dean’s son and daughter. Upon Dean’s retirement from CBS in 1987 they moved to Friendly Valley in Santa Clarita and traveled extensively worldwide. On their travel they often went with friends on cruises, and square danced in many areas of the world. They traveled through Europe, Asia and the Middle East and found friends wherever they went. They were intensely involved with the Friendly Valley Golf Club and Vera won many golf tournaments well into her mid-80’s. She maintained long time friendship with members of her Rosary Group, her world travels and the Golf Club. She moved to Sun City West Arizona to become closer to family and was preceded in death by Dean in 2015 after 43 more years of marriage. She is survived by her sister Dorothy, brother Bernard, and her five son’s and four loving daughter-in laws. Dennis and Chris, Bob and Barbara, Jim and Paula, and Rick and Kristy Predmore and Randy Martin and daughter Gail Martin. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Vera spent her entire life with a positive and loving attitude and a spirit focused on her faith, her devotion to family, and her many friends. A celebration of her life will be held at the family Alcantara Vineyard in Cottonwood on April 30th and Funeral Mass will be held at the San Fernando Mission Old Mission Ray Church in California on May 12th with burial and reception following. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her name to your local Catholic Charities or a charity of your choice with a focus on family and faith.
