His life was one of remarkable travel and adventure. Thomas lived in several countries, including the United States, Iran, Japan, and Vietnam, and traveled extensively worldwide. He developed a deep appreciation for Japanese culture, which remained an important part of his life and interests.
After marrying his wife, Etsuko Morita Baird, Thomas embraced Buddhist practice and developed a deep appreciation for the traditions and philosophy that became part of his life. With his crystal-blue eyes and blond hair, he had a youthful, unmistakable fashion sense, often wearing a Ford baseball cap, bomber jacket, or leather vest paired with his favorite Vans. People frequently commented on how cool he dressed for his age, and Thomas seemed to enjoy proving that age was no reason to give up personal style. His clothes reflected something about his personality—independent, confident, a little unconventional, and always himself.
Thomas will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of cars, his appreciation for different cultures and places, his strong work ethic, his unmistakable sense of style, and, above all, his devotion to his family. His life spanned many miles and many experiences, but the people he loved remained at the heart of it all.
