Susan Ann Palmer

Susan was born in San Francisco, California, to Victor and Dorothy Benedict. She grew up in San Francisco and later moved with her family to Millbrae, attending Capuchino High School where she was a member of the school’s marching band, while also an accomplished pianist. Susan went on to the University of California, Berkeley where she graduated with a degree in Education and was a member of Alpha Omega Pi.

In 1960, Susan married Thomas Palmer, beginning a loving partnership that lasted 66 years. Together, they raised their family in Millbrae and Burlingame. Susan devoted much of her life to her family while also pursuing a career that reflected her caring nature. She taught second grade at Chadbourne School in Millbrae (her 7 year-old students attended the wedding) and also worked at Brown’s Ambulance Company and the College of San Mateo.

In 1991, Susan and Tom retired to Scottsdale, Arizona, where they began a new chapter of their lives. In addition to traveling all of Europe, Susan cherished time with her family and took great pleasure in needlepoint and knitting, notably the hundreds of blankets and caps she knitted for preemie babies born at local hospitals. Above all, Susan will be remembered for the love she gave to her family and the many memories she created with them.

Susan is survived by her husband, Thomas Palmer; her children, Sally Arnold Adelman (Palmer) and Peter Palmer; her stepchildren, Tom Palmer and Linda Martin (Palmer); her sister, Kathy Bay (Benedict); seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ned Benedict.

Susan leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and whose lives were enriched by her presence. She will be remembered with love and missed by all who knew her.
