He graduated from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH with a Bachelor Degree of Music Education in 1963. He also obtained his Master of Music Degree from Bowling Green State University in 1974. Robert received his first teaching job in Mars Hill, ME. This is where he met the love of his life Harletta Mae Estabrook. They married in 1964 and then moved to Freeport, OH. He continued teaching music in Freeport and then moved to Lakeside, OH. Robert taught music and was Band Director at both Danbury High School in Lakeside, OH and later at Margaretta High School in Castalia, OH. He also was an Administrator for Port Clinton Christian School. He then changed careers and was a computer programmer for Lorain County in OH until he retired.
His greatest passion was always music and specifically the French Horn! He played in many different orchestras, including at Baldwin Wallace and the American Legion, and multiple community organizations and churches. His biggest influence was Maynard Ferguson, and he loved to “Buzz” like him.
Robert also had a passion for running. He started running in 1968 and started running a half mile a day three days a week and built up to 15 miles a day. He trained and ran in several marathons. On Catawba Island, he was known for being their own Road-Runner. His proudest moment was when he met four-time gold medalist Jesse Owens and had his picture taken with him.
Robert was not one to sit sill after retirement. His hobbies including becoming a chef, learning how to blow glass and hiking to name just a few. He was very proud that he hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd Robert and Mildred A Stewart and his wife Harletta Mae Stewart of 56 years. He is survived by his daughter Dundee (Robert) Earle of Akron, OH, two grandchildren, Melanie Earle of Haiku, Hawaii, Kenneth (Sara Wade- finance) Earle of Massillon, OH, great grandson Liam Earle of Massillon, OH, sister Sue Lowe of Apache Junction and many nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.
Robert is also survived by his second wife Carolyn Stewart who were married December 10, 2023, her four children Darlene Marquez, Darrin McAllister, Keith McAllister, Kimberly Campbell, nine grandchildren Christina Brown, Anthony Peru, Grant McAllister, Andrew McAllister, Dustin McAllister, Shane McAllister, Desiree Campbell, Kaycee Campbell, Shawn Campbell, eight great grandchildren Destiny Brown, Jacob Brown, Christian Brown, Shiloh Brown, Evaleen Laurin, Bruce Campbell, Griffen Campbell, Josiah Brown-Manriquez, one great, great grandchild Emilio Varela.
The family would like to thank HonorHealth Mountain Vista Medical Center of Mesa, AZ for all their care they provided Robert.
Final resting places will be in the Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction, AZ and burial at Tapley Cemetery. Pastor Mark Carter from Old Fashion Revival Center in Blaine, ME will be officiating graveside services which will be held later in the Spring.
The family would also like to thank Neptune Society who assisted the family with arrangements.
