She grew up on the north side of Chicago yet moved to the "country like" suburbs in the 1950's. A true patriot, she loved the American Flag, the military and would cry to the sound of a marching band. Bubbles loved her family. Losing her beloved father, Nathan, in her very early twenties, she relied on her grandmother, Rose Preskill, many aunts, uncles and cousins for support. But it was her mother, Min Husman, a woman before her time, that gave her the strength, confidence and smarts to be the trailblazer she would become. You would never see Bubbles in a dress or in a beauty parlor but in a barber shop - yes. Love is a word she would use throughout her long life because she loved so many things and would let you know. Some of her loves included the outdoors and to be in the sun. Her car of choice was a convertible with the top down except on a cold or rainy day.
Bubbles loved the water and was a good swimmer. She had many athletic abilities and was usually willing to try anything. Bubbles loved boats, and would take any opportunity to be on one especially if she could steer. Music was another one of her many loves. She played the piano well, but would not hesitate to pick up any instrument and amazingly--she would kind of play it.
Bubbles loved entertainment and was a fan of the great entertainers of yesteryear. During better times she would never miss an awards show. She loved so many singers and songwriters, particularly Ella Fitzgerald. When Bossa Nova became popular, she thought of herself as "The Girl From Ipanema" (RIP Astrud). Bubbles was a good cook and never hesitated lighting up the Weber.
She loved to travel and would imagine going places she never would. Bubbles loved animals. She developed very strong bonds with her many cats and dogs.
She loved feeding birds particularly at the harbor which she also loved.
Afraid of snakes, she wasn't afraid of much else. She knew how to speak her mind and never backed down in the face of conflict. She was highly opinionated and had a mouth to go with it. She was a true advocate and anyone would be happy to have her on their side. Not everyone was that lucky - sorry for them. Bubbles was married for a while to the famous automobile man, Eddie Farrell. She learned the meaning of a love-hate relationship. She would learn a lot from him and forget much too. Bubbles loved her friends and she would have many strong relationships, some lifelong. She had a magnetic personality and upon entering a room, she succeeded in being the center of attention.
Bubbles loved most of the people in her life and was a strong confidant. She was not shy and would ask and accept help when needed. Her many cousins were always there for her, particularly David Husman. He loved her father Nate almost as much as she. Bubbles loved her children, grandchildren and was blessed with five great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing her wisdom, her many loves and her values with them. She will be missed by many and is survived by her daughter Ande, son Reed, grandchildren Brandon (Sara), Dana, Bradley (Julie), Jamie, Emily and great-grandchildren. A private funeral will be held at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Michigan City, Indiana where she will remain. A celebration of life will include a gathering of family and friends at North Point Pavilion located in Washington Park, Michigan City featuring some of her favorite food and drink. The date will be announced soon. All who knew and were touched by Bubbles are welcome. Please consider a donation at HumaneSociety.org or plant a tree at JNF.com or anything else in her honor.
