Colonel Paul L. Miller of Gilbert, Arizona, formerly of San Antonio, Texas passed away on July 16, 2026 at the age of 86. He was born on June 19, 1940 in Eldorado, Illinois and lived through high school in southern Illinois.
Paul graduated from Murray State University (formerly Murray State Teacher’s College), with a triple major in Political Science, Journalism, and History. He then furthered his education with a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Alabama. Additionally, he attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Virginia, the Defense Language Institute in California, and the Brazilian Command and Staff College in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Paul had three distinct “careers” of which we are all very proud. He retired from the US Army, Intelligence branch as a full Colonel after 28 years of service. He there commanded men in Viet Nam, worked in many roles across the United States, served as the Asst. Army Attache to Brazil, and the Army Attache to Portugal. He then served his community in San Antonio, Texas, working as a Chief of Staff in the city council. In his third “career”, he served as a tutor and mentor to k-12 students, impacting lives and changing trajectories of countless students – one of whom is still counted among our family. Paul spent his entire life in service to others.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Willine Miller, and, as an only child, his beloved cousins James, Floyd, Melva, Roberta, Trudy, and Warner.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Miller, his daughters, Jill McKeever and Amanda Frankel, his sons in law, Craig McKeever and Daniel Frankel, and his six grandchildren: Kennon McKeever, Kam McKeever, Alex Frankel, Sarah Frankel, Ethan Frankel, and Anna Frankel, and his cousins Overton Hall, Jr., and Carol Whitlock.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 4pm in the theater of Copper Springs Retirement community. If you would like to attend virtually, please check back here for a link after Thursday.
