Norman Roger Guido, 89, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away July 30, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born April 20, 1934, at home in Yermo, California. His parents were James F. and Virginia A. Guido.
Norman was one of eleven children and was the third youngest of his seven brothers and four sisters. He was the last sibling to enter eternal life. He loved his big family but seemed eager to move on and explore the world after High School.
In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army with several other local friends and served in the Korean War. He then continued in the Reserves for eight additional years.
Many of his siblings settled in Las Vegas, so after serving his country, he moved there for several years. He later moved to California and began his career as a Transportation Engineer for Gulf and Chevron Oil Companies. He transported gasoline for over 30 years, traveling over one million miles, without a single accident or mishap during delivery to his western state territory. He received retirement honors for his clean transportation records. It was during these years that Norman was given the nickname, “Stormin Norman.” A true teddy bear at heart.
Norman married Beverly Hutzler in 1973, his favorite lady on the dance floor. They later divorced, but both remained best friends until his passing.
His passions were military planes, trucks, and food, and he had several key restaurants that were his favorites. The entire extended family enjoyed those weekends, long ago, when he called saying, “Join me for breakfast, I’m buying!” He loved to fly, and it was nothing for him to catch a plane and just fly to Hawaii for dinner and to see a few friends. His love of the islands was always displayed with his colorful Hawaiian shirts that he wore all the time. He also loved dancing & Jazz music.
Norman Guido’s passing ends the era of Bruno & Rosa Guido’s rich Italian heritage; he was their last remaining grandchild. Norm’s father was an Italian Immigrant from Italy who came to the United States when he was 12 years old. His Graveside services and Celebration of Life will be Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 1:00 pm.
Aloha, Uncle, Ciao, and Arrivederci!
