Norma Jean Horn, 87 of Mesa, Arizona passed away on January 2, 2017 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. She was lovingly known to her many friends and family as “Jean” Jean was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on January 4, 1930 to Carl and Eleanor Hoffman. She was raised and educated in Ft. Wayne. She received her BA and Master degrees from Indiana University. She and her husband, Leonard moved to Arizona in 1961. Jean was the Director of the Girls Scouts of America and a school teacher in both Mississippi and Arizona. She was also the owner and operator of Mesa Kindergarten, one of the first private kindergartens in Arizona. Jean was a member of the American Camping Association. She loved craft making and sewing as well as teaching Sunday School. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Leonard P Horn; her son, Leonard C. Horn and his wife, Gena of Glendale, Arizona; her daughter Janet C. Vanden Heuvel and her husband, Jeff of Queen Creek, Arizona. She was the proud grandmother to Alyssa, Tyler, Aimee and Rylee as well as great grandkids, Keaton, Antonio and Logan. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Pegran of San Jose, California. Services are being planned for later date. Neptune Society was in charge of the cremation arrangements.
