Nellie Mae Durst

Nellie Mae Durst, 91, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on March 15, 2025, at her care home, Sunrise of Chandler, with additional care from Aegis Hospice. Her family was blessed to continue to spend time with her through her closing days here on earth.

Nell was born in Cicero, Illinois to parents Elias and Jennie Loerop on October 5, 1933. She joined siblings Pearl, Hank, & Marjorie.

On June 27, 1953, she married Lewis (Lew) John Durst in Chicago, Illinois, the hometown of her family.

A few years later, they moved to their life-long home in Scottsdale. They were blessed with two children, a son, Gregory, and a daughter, Sandra.

At the heart of her life was her faith in and love for God, for her husband, Lew, and for her family.

Nell is survived by her son, Greg Durst, & his wife, Betty; her daughter, Sandra Brock; 4 grandchildren & their spouses, 5 great-grandchildren + 1 expected great-grandchild, along with nieces and nephews, all loved and cherished by Nell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Tempe, AZ.

A memorial service is being planned by the family at Abiding Savior in later May.
