Mary Lou was born on June 20, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents were Edward Hoyt Vincent and Florence Lillian (Marsh) Vincent of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. She graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1945, Harper Hospital School of Nursing and Cadet Nurse Corps 1946-1948. She continued her education throughout life, earning a BSN from Madonna College in 1973 and a Master’s in Education from University of South Florida in 1983. Her nursing career spanned a remarkable 60 years.
She was a very devoted wife and mother. She loved her husband “Huggy”, her family, her friends, education, travel, fishing, camping and boating. She and Huggy attended Chapel By The Sea Presbyterian Church for 40 years, serving on bell choir and as a Church Elder. She faithfully arranged to fly to join the family for weddings, adoptions and births.
Mary Lou was pre-deceased by her husband of 72 years, Edward Ernest Ellyatt, Sr. (“Huggy”) and her loving and devoted elder sister, Emily Elisabeth (Vincent) Stevens.
She is survived by her son, Edward Ernest (Roberta) Ellyatt, daughter Terry (Michael) Klein and three grandchildren, Janice Marie (Kerry) Coleman, Chad Michael (Shaney) Klein, and Kelli Michelle (Richard) Ostrosky. There are 10 great-grandchildren.
Mary Lou was cremated per her wishes. Her ashes will be scattered with immediate family present in both Michigan and Arizona this summer.
