May 6, 1929 – October 8, 2023
She was born Louise Ann Peters in Hollywood, California to Mark and Rose (Baer) Peters. As a newborn infant, Louise and her parents made the cross-country road trip from southern California back to Lehighton, Pennsylvania, where her parents owned and operated the RoseMark, a kind of café/tea room/soda shop. Her father died suddenly in 1936, leaving Rose and Louise to make their way in the world without him. When Louise was 14 they moved to Washington, DC where Rose worked for the US Navy during the war movement as a human computer. Rose remarried George Trexler, a widower and childhood friend. George adopted Louise and she changed to Lou Ann Trexler.
Lou Ann attended Stephens College in Colombia, MO where she met the love of her life, William M Wall who was studying at University of MO. They married in 1949. After a few years of moving around, the young couple eventually settled in Summit, NJ, where they raised their 3 children. Lou Ann volunteered her time to the Junior League, to the hospital where she managed the coffee shop and organized the annual Follies fund raiser. She was a member of the Volunteer First Aid Squad that provided ambulance services for Summit. In 1971, they moved from Summit, NJ to Phoenix, AZ, to open the first Ethan Allen furniture store in Arizona. The store was a family business and Lou Ann kept the books and managed the office.
When she became a grandmother for the first time her new grandchild dubbed her “Lulu” and the name stuck. For the last 35 years, the entire family has affectionately called her Lulu. In addition to her family, Lou Ann loved all sports, especially football, baseball and basketball. She was a long time Suns season ticket holder and attended many games over the last several years. She was an excellent cook, a wonderful host, a fierce bridge player, and continued to volunteer her time to raise money for various charities. She hosted the Planned Parenthood ball honoring Peggy Goldwater. She loved the color combination of purple and turquoise which was evident by the design of her kitchen, which featured turquoise cabinets with purple and lavender accent strips and a refrigerator to match.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William M Wall. She is survived by her 3 children: Eric M Wall of Malibu, CA, J. Scott Wall (Mary) of Los Angeles, CA, and Melanie Wall Brumble (Matt) of Phoenix, AZ, 3 grandchildren: Dr. Teagan Wall (Christophe Faucon) of Los Angeles, CA, Geoffrey Wall (Suri) of Tempe, AZ, and Annie Brumble of Chandler, AZ. She is also survived by her 2 great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Great Lulu.”
In her final year and a half, she moved to live with her daughter Melanie who lovingly cared for her and who made sure all her needs were met and that she got to watch her favorite sports.
The family will be holding a remembrance gathering on Saturday, October 28 at 2pm the home of Melanie and Matt Brumble. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to the AZ Humane Society or Planned Parenthood of Arizona.
