John Frank Till was born April 15, 1961 in Arlington, Virginia, and was adopted by Frank and Margaret Till. John was the only son of three children and would often say he wished he also had an older brother; he however found many good friends through his young years to fill this gap in his life.
John learned about hard work at a young age. His father encouraged him to get a paper route so he could learn the value of money. John didn’t do anything halfway and picked up one of the largest paper routes in his area. His desire to build a successful life started when he entered military service in the US Army in March of 1980 and served four years as a communications technician. After his time in the service, John met his first wife and they were stationed in Germany during his tour of service. Not long after returning home he started working at Smitty’s grocery store as a custodian and soon after, he would begin fatherhood with the birth of his son Stephen Paul. John tried various careers in his earlier years but finally settled on a challenging profession in the field of technology. He attended Lamson College for two years and studied computer networks. He was soon hired by Mesa Public School System (MPS) as a computer technician. After working for about ten years in various technical positions, he was promoted to a supervisor, responsible for the management and repairs of computer servers which delivered various forms of technology throughout MPS. John’s unique ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues made him a valuable asset and employee.
He retired from MPS after 25 years of service and moved to his home in Gold Canyon. One of John’s greatest pleasures was enjoying his many conversations and visits with his grandson Jonathan, who was a joy and blessing to his life. John enjoyed playing various online computer games such as World of Warcraft, watching old movies from the 50s, 60s and 70s and listening to classic rock and roll, especially Journey and the Eagles. Listening to various gospel quartets singing about his Savior and His love brought a smile to John’s face and a special peace to his heart. John was saved at a young age but did not attend church until later in his life. He developed a love and appreciation for his most recent friends and relationships at Christ’s Church, where he was baptized. He enjoyed and shared many Sunday lunches with his loving church family. Though he was unable to attend for the last few years, he enjoyed watching the services online and hearing about the growth and outreach of his church.
John is survived by his sisters Kathryn Peetoom and Laura Ashworth, his son Steven Paul Till and grandson Jonathan Daniel Till.
John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Margaret Till.
Memorial services will be held March 1, 2025, at Christ’s Church Free Will Baptist, 431 W. Ocotillo Rd, San Tan Valley, Arizona. It is requested that any memorial gifts be made in his name to Christ’s Church FWB or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
