Jay’s dearly loved wife Joan, sister Shirly Ann, twin sister Kay, & younger brother Larry preceded him in death. After graduating from Baldwin High School Jay proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for over 21 years. Jay met the love of his life Joan (Miller) in the military while serving together in the communication squadron at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. They married in 1962 and had three children Christopher Jude, Anthony Jay (Vicki) and Karen Garnand (Jim). He was blessed and overjoyed to have 10 grandchildren to spoil: Beverly, Crystal (Michael), Cody, Jamie, Katie, Lucas, Jake, Nicolas, Robby, and Timmy. He was brought additional joy when 2 great granddaughters, Jaspyr and Haidyn, entered his life. After retiring from the Air Force, Jay became a Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service in Phoenix, Arizona. He enjoyed delivering mail on the same route for 15 years until he retired again. Jay enjoyed playing poker with friends, reading, passing out gold dollars, playing the slots at the casino and eating breakfast at Cracker Barrel. He loved to reminisce about his military time in Japan climbing Mount Fuji and ate fried rice, his parttime job bar tending while serving TDY in Shemya, Alaska and working a mile underground in Naples, Italy. Jay made friends everywhere he went and put a smile on everyone’s face. Anyone that knew him, loved him, and uniquely had a “Papa Jay” story that would bring laughter to the conversation.
