Gordon C. Lagerstrom 84, passed away on January 27, 2019 peacefully at his home in Sun City, Arizona surrounded by his loving wife, Janett. It had been their loving custom to kiss each other good night every night for 52 years. They never missed a night! This day was no different!
Gordon was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 3, 1934 to Olga T. Swibes and George C. Lagerstrom, Sr. He was raised on the northside of Chicago and attend Chicago public schools.
Gordon worked for various country clubs and construction companies as well owning his own company.
He enjoyed collecting model cars, but really loved working with wood making all sorts of things, he also bowled, sang and followed his Chicago Cubs.
Gordon is survived not only by his loving wife, Janett of Sun City, but also a step-daughter Leandra Hiyane of Florida. Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Arthur
J. Birdwell & his family of Arizona; an uncle Donald Swibes and his family of Illinois and a cousin Sissy Fargar and her husband John and their family of Florida.
A dear friend of Godorn’s, Lynn, shared these precious thoughts: “We will remember him as a devoted and loving husband and a caring and loyal friend. Gordon was gifted with the natural ability to create art from any kind of wood. All one had to say is “I would love to have….” And the next thing you knew, Gordon would have it drawn up and made for you before you knew it. He was a home improvement store’s dream customer, he loved them as much as they loved him. Always thinking about the next project on the list. There are so many that will smile with the legacy that Gordon left us through his work.
Gordon loved spending time with his wife, Janett. No matter where they were, what they were doing; whether building a shed or relaxing watching his beloved Chicago Cubs, as long as she was close, he was happy. The love that the two shared was that of which most married couples pray for and was agreat example to all the love and the vows that they made to each other. They definitely had their share of richer/poorer, good times and bad, sickness/health and loved each other through it all.
In the world of Gordon Lagerstrom, there was no such thing as a stranger. He spoke to everyone as if he’d known them all their lives and for those who were blessed to call him friend, he genuinely cared about each and everyone. Frienships were something to be treasured and he made sure that was evident. He mentored the younger generations, shared his life experiences, provided advise and would be visually heart touched by a song, a touch, a memory or just love in general.
We will miss you Gordon but we know what you knew that this earth was not the end for you or for us. Till we meet again…..we love you so very much! “
If friends wish, they may honor him by making memorial contributions in his name to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
