Gary worked at the Gable House Bowling Alley in Torrance, California and then in 1968 he went into the Navy. He was in the Navy four years and loved every minute of it. Gary was very proud to serve his country and is a very proud Veteran. When he was Honorably Discharged from the Navy, Gary went to work for Douglas Aircraft 25 years! In 1977, Gary met the Love of his life, Nan McPhearson. They got together and bought a home together in Torrance, California, where they lived there for 14 years. Gary started making wood projects in his garage and enjoyed that very much. Aircraft companies started leaving California and Gary along with many others lost their jobs. Gary loved his job at Douglas and it was very hard for him to leave there. Gary had to put our house up for sale and we moved to Fort Mojave, Az. in 1993. We bought a new house and lived there for 9 years. Gary went to work at the Ramada Express, in Laughlin, NV.
In 1997 Gary found out he had cancer. He got sick from getting AGENT ORANGE from Vietnam and he had Diabetes. Gary worked as long as he could and finally needed to leave his job at the Ramada. He started having Chemo treatments. In 2001, Gary started going to the VA in Prescott, AZ. We finally moved to Prescott, AZ. in 2001. We bought our house and Gary was able to do a lot of work in the house to make it better for us. He also started doing woodwork in his shop and made many toys, including a full size wagon.
He enjoyed doing his woodworking. The day came when Gary could no longer do the things he truly enjoyed doing. Gary loved Nascar, the cars he had, and his dogs. Gary and I were together "41” years and I miss him terribly!
Gary is survived by Nan McPhearson, his soul mate; his sweet lil dog Honey; brother, Roland, (Ann), of Oregon; his sister Carol, (Frank) Hajney of Florida; sister-in-law Helen (Frank) Fleming of Prescott, AZ; several Nieces and Nephews; and many friends.
Gary was an honest, loving, caring man who would help anyone that needed it! Gary is going to be messed terribly, but will always be in our hearts and loved!
Gary's Memorial Service will be at the VA Chapel in the Prescott National Cemetery at: 500 Highway 89 North, Prescott, AZ 85301, on March 22, 2019.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
