Enrolled in Brown Military Academy, he participated in various educational experiences, played clarinet in the marching band and served as Drum Major his senior year of high school. That same year, he received a Congressional nomination to the United States Air Force Academy. Unfortunately, health issues prohibited his appointment.
Not one to be held down, Dale continued his educational pursuits at UCLA, USC and other local Los Angeles institutions.
At 19, Dale met the love of his life, Nancy, a high school sophomore. They dated for two years and were married in November 1959. Beginning in 1960, they became parents to two sons (Dale, Jr., and Glenn) and one daughter (Wendy). Over six decades, their love and family grew. They faced life, family deaths, joys, struggles, and changes together – always united by love.
Dale began his professional career with Honeywell in Southern California. With his expertise in manufacturing, he quickly ascended through management. He was promoted to a position in Arizona which require relocation of his family in 1976. Here, Dale found his true home and passion.
With other friends and family members, Dale and Nancy spent time skiing, renting houseboats for all to enjoy, relaxing in their cabins or timeshare, and travelling to countless locations around the globe. In retirement, Dale’s personal passion was golfing at his local courses and his annual trip with the “PGA” (Poor Golfers Association) to either Myrtle Beach or Orlando. Many wondered if Dale was there for golf, comradery, or simply the wine. He cherished the friendships made along the way. He was also always there to care for Nancy and their family.
In retirement, their travel continued until health issues became prohibitive. Dale found it more and more difficult to care for Nancy. In January 2021, he suffered a near-fatal stroke that stripped him of many mental and physical abilities. Nevertheless, he found time to smile and laugh and continue his loving care of Nancy as best able.
For all of us who knew Dale – as a devoted husband, a caring Father, Papa, Uncle, “Gruncle” or a cherished friend – we all share memories of his loving, caretaker nature – the greatest gift and legacy he gave us all.
Dale is survived by his sons Dale Jr. (Kris), Glenn (Kelli), and daughter Wendy, with grandchildren Erin, Dallas, Koehler, Hailey, Gus, Hunter, and Schaeyenne, four great grandchildren, Everett, Maeve, Mike, and Lucy, and many nephews, nieces and friends.
We will miss him and her memories of the time we have shared will live on. May he rest in peace and always remain in our hearts.
A local service for interment of Dale’s ashes will be held in the future.
