Charles E. Heacox 1931-2017 Chuck or Charlie, as he preferred to be called, passed away on February 8, 2017 after suffering a massive stroke. He was born in Dulzura, California February 17, 1931 to Charles and Valerie Heacox, who preceded him in death. Upon graduating from Grossmont High School in 1948 he enlisted in the US Navy and completed basic training in San Diego and advanced training as an Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) Operator at Moffett Field, CA and was assigned to VC-35 aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard during the Korean conflict. He left the Navy after 4 years and worked as an electronics inspector for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft. He enjoyed working on cars and became an auto mechanic working in Ford and Mercury dealerships. He later became a laser operator for a metals shop that specialized in producing one-of-a-kind metal products. He retired in 1995 in Hacienda Heights, CA and worked part-time at the California Country Club as a starter. He moved to Buckeye, AZ about 2004 and lived in the Sundance Adult Community. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Post Commander while he lived in CA. He attended all the VC-35 Squadron reunions and was inducted into the Enlisted Combat Aircrews Roll of Honor on November 14, 2003 at the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, Mt. Pleasant. SC. He was an avid golfer and prized his many “Hole-in-One” trophies to prove it. He fathered four sons by his first wife, Ila Jean (nee Lehmer) Heacox. All of his sons live in Texas; James Alan, Donald Patrick, and John Kevin, in the Dallas area and his eldest son Steven Eugene in San Antonio. He divorced his first wife and married to Eleanor Grace (nee Cole) Heacox, who preceded him death and his final marriage to Eleanor Gloria (nee Van Halst), who also preceded him in death. He had two older sisters, Greta and June who preceded him death and is survived by his youngest sister Joy Van Syckle. He is also survived by his four sons, 10 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Chuck was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. Chuck was also a Korean War veteran He was a member of the Neptune Society and his ashes will be interred at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. A memorial service will be held at the Sundance Recreational Center on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
