Cara Jean (Hendrix) Curry, age 88, passed away on September 9, 2024 in Scottsdale, Arizona, close to those who loved her. Born on June 4, 1936, in Haskell, Oklahoma, she accomplished a diverse and impactful career.
Cara’s professional journey included roles as a nurse, real estate agent, and business owner. She notably co-founded a publicly traded pharmaceutical company. She owned a home healthcare agency, and managed an oncology clinic, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to healthcare.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Cara was deeply involved in civic affairs, serving on various board memberships and the Detroit Mayor’s commission, reflecting her commitment to community service. Cara also received an Honorary Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. She was an adventurous traveler of many countries such as Egypt, Singapore, South of France, South Africa, Italy, China and Europe to name a few. She was on a continuous journey of self-awareness and purpose. Her energy and leadership qualities brought many well-known activists and political figures into her life such as former South African President Nelson (Winnie) Mandela, Tony Robbins, Jesse Jackson, former first lady Michelle Obama, Marianne Williamson, former President Bill (Hilary) Clinton, former Detroit Mayors Coleman A. Young and Dennis Archer.
Cara is survived by her husband C. Arnold Curry, MD, sons Mark (Cheryl) and Joseph (Rachel), Curry, Sister Patricia McGraw and Brother Gary (Elle) Hendrix , grandchildren, Joseph Curry, Cara N. Curry, Mark A. Curry, Keisha Rowe, Kevin Travier, great grandchildren Keiana Curry, Tatiana Curry, Quentin Curry, Jaden Rowe, Nya Rowe, Janae Travier, Kevin Travier, Jr., nieces and nephews and a host of other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Lorenzo and Susye Ann (Moore) Hendrix, brothers Lorenzo Jr, Donald, Crawford and Micheal Hendrix.
Her life and legacy will remain a beacon of inspiration for all who knew her. She always reminded us that life is 10% of what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley, and The Neptune Society for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days. Additionally, relatives were greatly helpful.
