Lake Havasu City, Arizona
Jan 25, 1933 – October 13, 2018
Bruce Henry McKie, 85, of Lake Havasu City AZ passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 13, 2018. Committal service and inurnment will take place at 2:30pm on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia and his children and spouses; Ruthann (Brian), Mitchell (Pamala), daughter Mickie, David (Denise), including 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Bruce is preceded in death by his oldest twin daughter, Brusann and father-in-law, Bill Kuuse.
Born in Virginia, Bruce was moved as a young child to San Diego where he lived until retiring to Lake Havasu City in 2004. Notable is his graduation from Point Loma High School in 1950, military service in the Army National Guard, wildland firefighter in the US Forest Service -Alpine and a long, successful sales career. Bruce was proud of his over 63 years as member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and his service to the San Diego County Honorary Deputy Sheriffs as Chairman, Weapons Training Ranges.
San Diego’s proximity to the ocean ignited Bruce’s life-long love of the water as exhibited in his youthful activities of ocean water skiing and lifeguard at the Mission Beach Plunge and later as a boat owner and yacht broker on Shelter Island, including lake boating in Arizona. It is true that Bruce “never met a stranger” and he never passed by a stranded car or boat. If Bruce McKie arrived with his strong handshake, a smile, a joke and the offer of repair with his ever-ready duct tape; it would truly be a lucky day
The family wishes to thank his friends and neighbors in Lake Havasu and San Diego for their support and concern in the year preceding his death; including River Valley Home Health and Hospice for the caring efforts extended on behalf of Bruce H. McKie.
“You’ve stepped across to heaven’s shore
And we are but a breath behind,
Holding dear the truth that
All that bound us close on earth
Binds us still –
For love endures forever.”
