November 12, 1963 - March 27, 2025
Andrew “Andy” Stephen Miller, 61, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on March 27,
2025. Born on November 12, 1963, Andy lived a life defined by adventure, resilience,
and service.
Andy had a deep love for the outdoors. An avid hiker, he explored the Grand Canyon
many times, even hiking it from rim to rim. He completed more than 10 marathons and
was a passionate cyclist. His determination and love for physical challenges reflected
his courageous spirit.
A proud graduate of Anderson High School, Andy went on to earn his degree from
Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. He built a distinguished career in IT and
business analysis, working for EDS, the state of Indiana, and later, after moving to
Arizona, for the state of Arizona and Maricopa County. In 2003, he was honored with
the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash award for his dedicated service to the state
of Indiana.
Andy was a true fighter. After surviving childhood cancer, he later faced heart disease
caused by his treatments. He underwent two open-heart surgeries before receiving a
heart transplant in December 2022. Those extra years were a gift that allowed him to
continue hiking with his dear friends and cousins making more cherished memories.
Andy is survived by his loving mother, Erna Miller; his sister Kathy Burnside, her
husband John Burnside; his niece Katie Greenawalt; his nephews, David Burnside and
Kevin Burnside.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on **Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 2:00 pm** at
Community Church of the Verdes, 25603 N. Danny Lane, Rio Verde, AZ 85263.
Andy’s legacy of perseverance, kindness, and adventure will live on in the hearts of
those who knew and loved him.
