Wayne Paul Austreng was born on February 18, 1952, and passed away at the age of 74 on August 21, 2026. A resident of Sopchoppy, Florida, Wayne’s life was rooted in the place he called home and shaped by steady devotion to the people and passions that mattered most—family, fishing, NASCAR, and Florida State football.
Wayne served as a cook in the United States Marine Corp, bringing diligence and pride to his work. He later worked as a Pipe Fitter with Atlantic Marine on the Naval ships in Mayport, Florida, a role that reflected his reliability and the quiet strength of someone who understood the value of doing a job well.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia “Betty” Bailey and Rodney Austreng.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Julia Austreng; and his children, Serena Crum (David Crum), Katrice Austreng, Ben Beach, and Erica Burchette. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joel, Morgan, Logan, Hannah, Makayla, James, Logan C. and Brandon; and his great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jason, and Mateo.
Wayne was best known as “Dad,” “Papa,” “Grandpa,” and “Old Man.” Those who loved him will carry forward the familiar words that so often marked his care and presence: “Keep the Line Tight,” “Love you Kiddo,” and “See ya Later.”
The family would like to thank Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
