Shirley met her husband, Frank while they both served in the United States Navy at USNAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island. They were married in their uniforms and Shirley always told the story that she wouldn’t marry Frank until he got down on one knee and propose, so he did. They married right after that with their good friends, Jackie Moyer and Tommy Durkin in attendance as their witnesses. They were married for 53 years and celebrated their 50th anniversary at Whisperwood where they lived in Deland, Florida with all their family and friends in attendance.
Shirley’s marriage to Frank took them from Niagara Falls, New York all over the country when he joined the US Border Patrol in 1966. After Frank graduated from the US Border Patrol Academy in Port Isabel Texas they moved the family to El Paso Texas, to Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, to Orlando Florida, to Yuma Arizona to Miami Florida where all the children scattered. They moved from Miami to Central Florida and then again to Calhoun Georgia so Shirley could be close to her three ailing siblings. Eventually they settled in Deland Florida where Frank passed in 2006. Shirley then decided to move to Ellijay Georgia to be near her cousin and good friend until she moved to Perdido Key to be close to her daughter Sherry.
She is preceded in death by her husband , Frank A. Wilson; two sons, David Russell Wilson and Mark Alan Wilson; her grandson, Chance Lindsay Wilson; her parents, Alvin H Tarvin and her mother Beulah Tarvin; and her six siblings, Arnold, Dixie, JC, Sybil, Jean and Vernon.
