Shawn Michael Milligan (Captain Shawn) was born 12/6/1976 in Springfield, Mo. He shed his earth suit on 6/24/2021 while living his dream of being a boat captain on the shimmering waters of Destin, Florida.
Shawn attended Glendale High School where he was a football stand out, and then went on to MU and MSU. He was a member of the SAE Fraternity at MU. Shawn also enjoyed a successful career as a realtor with ReMax House of Brokers in Springfield.
When he arrived on the scene, his family had no problem choosing their pet names. To his Dad, he was “Buck”, to his Mom, he was “my Sunshine” and to his big sister, he was her “Shawny boy”. He was and always will be truly loved.
As Shawn’s friends will tell you, he was the kind of guy who would give you a place to sleep, a buck if you needed it, or the shirt off his back (if you could wear an XXL) . He was a beautiful human. His light will continue to shine through the lives he touched.
Shawn is survived by his loving family: Mother, Debbie Speed Milligan (Springfield, Missouri), sister, Heather Milligan (Felice DiBasilio), niece, Elena, and nephew, Luca (all of Rome, IT ).He also enjoyed special relationships with his uncles, Bob Speed and Kent Speed. He was predeceased by his father, Gary Milligan, who he missed deeply, and his grandparents. He will also be greatly missed by aunts, uncles and cousins plus a host of friends, old and new. Shawn never met a stranger. He also leaves a big gap in the Kansas City Chiefs’ fan club. Win or lose he was cheering them on or giving them a much needed chewing out. Go Chiefs!!
A Captain’s Burial will take place in Destin, FL on August 2, 2021.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Shawn at The Boathouse, Lake Springfield, 5324 S. Kissick on August 29,2021. Light lunch @12pm followed by smiles, memories, and tears.
