A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Roy was known for his comedic wit, hard work ethic, generosity, impressive dance moves, and telling the best stories in his distinct New Orleans accent. He was larger than life, outspoken, and warm.
Roy married the love of his life, Doris "Dodie" Rouse, from Covington, LA. They were joined in marriage on January 2, 1960, remaining faithfully married for 64 years. Roy and Dodie raised three sons, who Roy was extremely proud of and loved very much.
Roy graduated from St. Pauls College in 1956 and furthered his education at Southeastern Louisiana University. He proudly served in the Marine Reserves and the Army. He had a successful career at Midas International, owning the Midas shop on N. Monroe Street for 16 years. Later, he retired after serving the state of Florida in the Department of Juvenile Justice.
In his free time, Roy enjoyed boating, fishing, and taking his family out on his boat, Moonglow, docked at Shields Marina in St. Marks, FL. Born in an Italian and French family, Roy loved his family time, especially gathered around the table! He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris "Dodie" Averna, sons Stephen (Donna) Averna, Darren Averna, and Christopher Averna, along with six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sisters Lillian (Mel) Lescale and Elaine (Wil) Jones.
