Robert Allen Todd, 92, died Monday February 24th at Azalea Gardens memory care in Tallahassee, Florida. He was the son of John L. Todd and Laura Killian Todd of Lancaster Pennsylvania.
Robert was a graduate of McCaskey High School class of 1950 where he was co-captain of the boys wrestling team. Robert joined the Air Force and served as an air traffic controller in Hawaii and Kwajalein.
After completing his tour in the Air Force, he returned to Lancaster and attended Millersville Teacher's College where he met the love of his life Mary Jane Martz. She insisted he complete his degree before they could be married, but somehow, he convinced her to take a camping honeymoon. After a stint teaching math to middle schoolers, they both worked on their master’s degrees, completing them in Syracuse New York. He and Mary Jane also learned to scuba dive while in Syracuse.
Robert learned to fly small planes, earning his Private Pilot's Certificate. After one too many hard winters, Robert and Mary Jane decided to move as far south as they could go, to Key West Florida. There, Robert was director of data processing for the Monroe County school board. With Mary Jane working as librarian at Key West High School, they had numerous friends and acquaintances. Robert was an animal lover and over the years they had quite the menagerie at times having a herd of turtles, ducks, fish, Guinea pigs, tropical birds and iguanas.
Robert is survived by his son, Richard, husband of Kathleen, of Tallahassee Florida.
He we preceded in death by his parents Laura and John, his wife of 61 years, Mary Jane, and his siblings Evelyn, Paul and Gerald.
