Tallahassee on July 30, 1946, he was the son of Alfred Benjamin Dockett and Rosebud Floyd Dockett.
Robert always noted that he worked hard all of his life. He started working at a young age, as the delivery
person for Dockett’s pharmacy, making deliveries on his bicycle to the residents of Thomasville, Georgia.
Robert attended Douglas High School for the first year but proved to be too outspoken for the time. His
parents decided to send him to Saint Emma Military Academy in Powhatan, Virginia. After graduating
from Saint Emma Military Academy he enrolled at Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas. He later
transferred to Florida A & M University School of Pharmacy. He completed 2 years of University Training
before enlisting in the US Air Force, where he trained in the medical technology field. After being
honorably discharged, he returned to Florida A & M University, all while putting his military training to
use, working in the medical labs at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He continued his work in medical
technology with Drs. Harrison, Smith, and McDonald, running the medical lab for Hematology Oncology
Associates. After 20 plus years with the State of Florida Department of Agriculture, he retired from his
official position as a biologist.
In his spare time Robert enjoyed music, reading, fishing and good conversation. He enjoyed “engaging in
intellectual conversation”, loving to talk even while he was sleeping.
Robert developed an interest in music at a very young age. He was a true percussionist, often drumming
on anything he could use his hands to tap out a beat on, including drums, congas, piano, table tops and
sometimes himself. He loved music, especially jazz. For many years, Robert played in a few local bands;
Chameleon and River Breeze, just to name a couple.
He was an avid reader and always eager to learn new and different things. He always said “reading is like
traveling. You can go anywhere!” He had an active and vivid imagination.
For him fishing was relaxing and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Claudia Robertson Dockett, one daughter, Angela Dockett-
Green and one son, Robert Dockett, Jr. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Gabrielle Green Linzer,
Simone Green, Jordan Green, Jasmine Green, Kyra Dockett and Jacob Dockett. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Frank Robertson and Steven Coleman and his sisters-in-law, Morrisce Dockett, Maryland Dockett and Barbara Coleman. Additional survivors include 10 nieces, 6 nephews and the prayer warriors that covered him in prayer for many years.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Rosebud Dockett; his brothers, Alfred Dockett II,
William Dockett, Simon Dockett and his sister, Marion Dockett.
