June 4, 1940 – October 19, 2023
R.H. Kight passed away surrounded by his family on October 19, 2023, in Tallahassee, Florida after a lengthy illness and battling dementia. Married to Barbara since 1964 until separated by death. He remained devoted to her often referring to her as his one true love.
Born in Bushnell, Florida, R.H. was always independent, athletic, and adventurous even as a boy. He told many stories of his childhood antics, often using these stories to the enjoyment of his children and granddaughter, while imparting some nugget of wisdom, comedy or prank.
He served in the Merchant Marines and US Army before settling down in Tallahassee, Florida where he and Barbara raised their children, Hank and Patti, and granddaughter and star, Tawnee.
Together with his wife and later his son, he built and maintained a successful business and was able to retire where he spent many hours in service to his church and his family. R.H. spent many hours in taking care of his family, yard, and garden providing fresh produce for his family and friends.
R.H. loved being outdoors, often training with his hunting dogs in the summer and hunting in the winter. He was often accompanied by Hank, Patti, and later Tawnee, using the time to not only pursue his love of hunting but giving him the opportunity to spend time alone with each one.
R.H. was the unofficial Grandpa to many of Tawnee’s friends and teammates, introducing himself as Grandpa and cracking a joke of some type. Grandpa was the unofficial coach of Tawnee’s high school volleyball team and could be found on the court or sidelines cheering them on.
R.H. is preceded in death by his father (Robert Kight), his mother (Almeda Kight), and his sister (Bobby Jo Kight Pinardi). He leaves his wife, Barbara; his son, Hank Kight (Sheri); his daughter (Patti Kight); his grandchildren Tawnee Peters (Mylon), Catharine Marchant and his great grandchildren; Brantley, Maverick and Hampton Peters, Jessica Strycula, and Justin Lindsley.
