Randy K. Wegner, 71, of Tallahassee, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 in Tallahassee. The son of the late Dean E. Wegner and Janice Lea Bartlett Wegner, he was born on March 31, 1952 in Goodland, Kansas.
After graduation, Randy worked for the State of Georgia for a short time. Then, following in his father’s footsteps, he went to work for NOAA National Geodetic Survey as a surveyor. In 1982, while traveling the US for his job, Randy met Luann M. Veil in Jamestown, ND. Luann would later become his wife. The couple were married in 1985 at the Elvis Presley Chapel in Tupelo, MS. In 1989, Randy and Luann moved to Florida where he continued working for NGS and the State of Florida as an assistant State Advisor. Randy retired from NGS in 2012, after 35 years of service. In 2013, Randy returned to the workforce at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as an Engineer Specialist, continuing there until his death. Randy was a dedicated employee, working from his hospital bed for a short time, with encouragement from his boss and friend, Rudy.
When Randy was not working he enjoyed watching old black and white movies, especially John Wayne movies. He enjoyed his stamp and coin collections and watching court shows on television. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Luann M. Wenger. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law; Jerry Veil (Dorothy) and Curtis Veil (Violet). Additionally he is survived by two sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Guinn (and friend Terry Rizer); and Delores Veil. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Dean E Wegner and Janice Wegner; and his brother, Michael Wegner. He was also preceded in death by three brother-in-laws; Duane Veil, Kenneth Veil, and Harold Guinn. Additionally he was preceded in death by his in laws, Willie and Luella Veil and his grandparents.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made in Randy’s memory to The American Cancer Society.
No funeral services are planned.
