Phillip Adkinson "Chip" Moncrief

Phil was born and raised in Montgomery, AL, May 18, 1945 where he attended Dalraida Elementary, Goodwyn Jr. High and Robert E. Lee High School. He graduated from Troy State University with a degree in Biology. He worked for the CDC for 38 yrs., moving from Montgomery to Mobile, Memphis, Hartford Connecticut, Pensacola and Tallahassee. He and Linda loved Tallahassee and decided to make it there “forever” home. After retirement, Phil agreed to help re-write some of the CDC manuals. He was never one to just sit and watch the world go by.

He was a charter member of Dalraida United Methodist Church as this church started in his childhood home on Hunter Lane in Montgomery. He was a faithful member of Good Samaritan United Methodist Church in Tallahassee. He was passionate about his service to the Lord, his church and his neighbors. He and Pumpkin never met a stranger and brought joy to so many.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Porter Moncrief, his parents, Percy Burns Norton and Mae Adkinson Norton Moncrief Hudson and his adoptive father Charles Eben “Red” Moncrief and his four siblings, Anne Norton Weldon, James Lawrence Norton, Francis Aubrey Moncrief and Jean Moncrief Umstead.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Moncrief Richardson (Marvin) and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was also survived by his constant companion, Pumpkin.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 3720 Capital Circle SE, Tallahassee, FL right after the 10:00 a.m. worship service (approximately 11:30 a.m.) on October 29, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 3720 Capital Circle SE, Tallahassee, FL 32311 or to your favorite charity.

His family would like to thank his pastor, church family and neighbors that made such a difficult time much easier to bear. It was wonderful to hear the stories of his Servant Heart and to see how loved our “Chip” was.
