She was born on February 21,1933 in Thompson, Ohio to Burton Roger Rohrbaugh and Helen Sterns. She was preceded in death by her oldest son Paul Marshall Sundberg Born May 31,1956 Died May 26, 2021, her Grand Daughter Hannah Mae Elizabeth Sundberg Born April 8, 1987 Died February 9, 2015, her brother Neal Leroy Rohrbaugh, and her Sister Kay (Rohrbaugh) Harper. Norma Jean was the mother of 10 children: Michelle Delene (Donald ) Bircher of Kinsman, OH, Paul Marshal of Cherry Valley, OH, Sally Sue(David) Hamby of Crawfordville, FL, Wesley Matthew of Orient, OH, Glen Raymond of Lavonia, GA, Albert Russell Jr. (Andree) of Lakewood, OH, Roger Dean (Michelle) of Apple Creek, OH Amy Ruth (Darryl) Fisher of Thompson, OH Mark Allen (Darbie) of Hayesville, OH, Janet Lee (Adam) Ellington of Tallahassee, FL. She is survived by her brother Richard Rohrbaugh, her Sister Dorothy (Rohrbaugh) James, 31 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Norma Jean went to Grade School and High School in Newberry, Ohio. She attended college in the late 1970's at Kent State University's Ashtabula Campus. While there she met Claudia Greenwood Ph D. Norma is listed as a poet in Dr. Greenwood's manual "Go For It! about non traditional women returning to school. Following college she taught poetry classes at "College for Kids" at her alma mater Kent State. For 10 years she wrote a weekly column "Nibits from Norma's Nook" in an Ohio newspaper called The Free Enterprise. She was the editor of Tower Bell, a newsletter of the First Congregational UCC in Jefferson, Ohio for 10 years which included a monthly essay and a poem. Norma has had poetry and articles published in Writer's Journal, Christian Science Monitor, Hoard’s Dairyman, and the Tallahassee Democrat among others. Norma was known for her love of puns and quick wit, and even had a long correspondence with Erma Bombeck. In 2007 she published a children's book called "The Odd Fable". Norma Jean was a kind and tender woman, loved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who enjoyed her impromptu poems, stories and songs, and was adored by all who knew her. She was also a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Memorial services will be held for her at a time and place yet to be announced.
